Geostatistical Classification and Class Kriging

A new method is proposed for the classification of data in a spatial context, based on the minimization of a variance-like criterion taking into account the spatial correlation structure of the data. Kriging equations satisfying classification bias conditions are then derived for interpolating the rainfall data while taking into account the classification.

Geostatistical analysis of disease data: estimation of cancer mortality risk from empirical frequencies using Poisson kriging

BACKGROUND Cancer mortality maps are used by public health officials to identify areas of excess and to guide surveillance and control activities. Quality of decision-making thus relies on an accurate quantification of risks from observed rates which can be very unreliable when computed from sparsely populated geographical units or recorded for minority populations. This paper presents a geosta...

Estimation of effective wind speed

The wind speed has a huge impact on the dynamic response of wind turbine. Because of this, many control algorithms use a measure of the wind speed to increase performance, e.g. by gain scheduling and feed forward. Unfortunately, no accurate measurement of the effective wind speed is online available from direct measurements, which means that it must be estimated in order to make such control me...

Multivariate geostatistical estimation using minimum spatial cross-correlation factors (Case study: Cubuk Andesite quarry, Ankara, Turkey)

The quality properties of andesite (Unit Volume Weight, Uniaxial Compression Strength, Los500, etc.) are required to determine the exploitable blocks and their sequence of extraction. However, the number of samples that can be taken and analyzed is restricted, and thus the quality properties should be estimated at unknown locations. Cokriging has been traditionally used in the estimation of spa...

Spatial estimation of wind speed: a new integrative model using inverse distance weighting and power law

Spatial interpolation (SI) is currently one of the most common ways to estimate wind speed (Ws). However, classic SI models either ignore the complex geography [e.g. inverse distance weighting (IDW)], or demand high computational resources (e.g. cokriging). This study aimed to develop a simple yet effective SI model for estimating Ws in Eastern Thrace of Turkey. This new method, named MIDW(Ws),...
